Families welcome new babies

Congratulations to my daughter, Jennifer, and Damian Miller of Elk Creek on the birth of their precious baby boy, Kaleb Nathaniel Miller. He was born on April 3. He weighed 8 pounds, 3 ounces and was 21 1/2 inches long. He has a head full of brown hair. This is the first grandchild for me and Lee Roy and we couldn’t be happier. His other grandmother is Billie Miller of Blackey. They got to come home on Saturday and I just can’t stay away from him. Some of Damian’s aunts and cousins came in from London Saturday to see him.

Don’t forget about the pancake breakfast fund-raiser being held at the Blackey Missionary Baptist Church on Saturday, April 12, from 8 a.m. till 12 p.m. It’s $5 for adults and $3 for children under 12.

Congratulations to Karen and Jonny Henrikson of Carcassonne on the birth of their son. William Jackson was born on April 1 in Virginia. He weighed 8 pounds, 7 ounces and was 21 inches long. He has two older sisters, Takoa and Taylor. The grandparents are Wayne and Freda Bailey of Isom, and Jon and Loretta Henrikson of Carcassonne. I got to see a picture of him and he’s a handsome big boy.

I made a mistake in my column last week. I said Clell Riley of Red Star had stomach cancer but it’s his bladder where he has it. His wife, Clara, said he has a doctor’s appointment in Lexington on the 15th and as of right now he is feeling okay.

Barb Campbell of Letcher left for Indianapolis on Friday. She is planning on staying about a month with family.

Sally Caudill of Whitesburg, formerly of Doty Creek, has been in the hospital. The pins they put in for her broken hip got infected and she got a staph infection. I hope she feels better soon.

Tommy Halcomb and Virgil Combs, both of Carcassonne, have been sick. Virgil had to have outpatient surgery on Thursday at Whitesburg Appalachian Regional Hospital and got out of the hospital that day. He was in for almost a week.

Nigel Nichols of Doty Creek had to spend some time in Hazard Hospital with a bad sinus infection. He was also keeping a very high temperature. He is the son of Mark and Monae Nichols. Nigel is four years old.

There was a household shower held at the Blackey Missionary Baptist Church on Saturday for Brett Halcomb of Ulvah and Ida Miller of Hazard. They are planning a June wedding. Brett is the son of Dud and Joe Halcomb.
