Family gathers after church

Hello everyone! I hope this finds each of you doing well. Michael, the boys and I are okay. We are all dealing with sinus and allergy issues, but otherwise we are good, thankfully.

Mom, Sylvania Whitaker, has been in the hospital with pneumonia again. She had bronchitis and was going to MCHC for IV antibiotics for a couple days, but on the third day they admitted her to the hospital with pneumonia. She is home now, but is still really weak. Please pray for her.

There were church services at Dixon Memorial Old Regular Baptist Church on Sunday and several that live here on Blair Branch attended. Mom wasn’t feeling well enough to go, but Dad, Allen Whitaker; my sister, Missy Fields and family; Lovell and Lois Blair; J.C. and Joy Blair; Johnny and Tammy Whitaker as well as Tammy’s mom, Kathy all attended.

After church, we all go to Mom and Dad’s house to visit with each other and have dinner together. Johnny, Tammy, and Kathy came up to be with us. We love having them. It was nice that Kathy came with them. She is a real sweetheart. Roger Fields, George Roark, Greg Mullins and Dean Mullins also came to the house to sing and pray for Mom after church. That was very kind of them and we all really appreciated it.

Van Blair has been in the hospital. His wife Jane and daughter Elvenia came to visit with Mom while she was there. I haven’t heard how he is doing the last few days. Hopefully better. Blair Branch

Charity Whitaker ’ s youngest son, Jordan Adams, has been real sick with bronchitis. She had him at the ER one day last week as they thought he may be getting pneumonia, but I haven’t heard what they told him. I hope he is feeling better.

My nephew, Alex Whitaker, had the stomach bug during the weekend, but is feeling better now. So far the rest of the family has avoided it and let’s hope it stays that way. That stuff sure makes a person miserable.

My sister, Opal Jent, says that Joyce Ison has a consult scheduled and will be having her other hip replaced soon.

Jessica Jent, my nephew Gardner Allen’s wife, is scheduled to have lasik eye surgery on Thursday. She is excited but nervous. I hope it goes well for her. I would love to have this done at some point in the future as well.

Wanda and Kenny Whitehead are going to be grandparents again. Wanda’s son, Derrick Watts, and his girlfriend Krystal are expecting a little of bundle of joy in August. They are all over the moon with excitement. Congratulations to all of you. I wish Momma and baby the best of luck!

Leslie Strong of Hazard is a good friend of our nephew Brandon Couch. She recently had the opportunity to play with Keith Urban and Richard Marx at the #1 Party for Long Hot Summer.

Keith saw a video she uploaded of her playing the song on YouTube. Keith’s management contacted Leslie and said that he would like her to come to Nashville to play with him at the #1 Party. So she said “ Why not?”

Leslie says, “Keith and everyone at his management office were extremely nice and I’m really grateful for the experience. You see a lot of guys in the music industry that are just nice on camera, but Keith really is one of those guys that are just genuinely nice and loves to play. We need more guys like him in the music business.”

Keith also chose another fan to sing with him. The young man’s name is Patrick Woolam and he is from Kansas City, Mo. Congratulations to the both of you!

The Battle of the Bands Benefit for Travis Morton will be held Saturday, February 4, at the Shriner’s Building in Whitesburg from noon until midnight. Bands and solo artists will play throughout the event. There will be spaghetti dinners, bake sale items, cakewalks, and a performance by Revelation 22.

Maurice and Becky Collie will celebrate their wedding anniversary on February 6. Happy anniversary to you two. I hope you have many more love-filled years together.

I only have one birthday to share this week. Montana Combs, son of Charity Whitaker and Edward Combs, will celebrate his birthday on February 7. Happy birthday, Montana. I hope it is a great one!

If I have left anyone or anything out, just let me know and I will be glad you get you next time. I hope everyone has a healthy and happy week. If you would like to contact me, feel free to give me a call or you may email me at alanacouch@hotmail.com.
