Family taking turns helping their mother

Blair Branch

This has been one crazy week. It seems like it has been go, go, go. Just a day in the life of our family, I suppose. So please forgive me if this is short. I’ll try to do better next week.

On Monday, Oct. 19, Missy and I took mom to dialysis. Opal has been taking her on Fridays. Taking turnabout is working out so far; we want to help out all we can. No one is allowed to go in with her during treatment, so Missy and I went out to eat and browsed Big Lots, Family Dollar, and the United Grocery Outlet.

Mom had to make the trip to the University of Kentucky medical Center on the 22nd for pre-op. She will have a dialysis fistula put in her arm on the 29th. It is more permanent and a lot less risk for infection than the catheter she has in her chest right now. The surgery will be outpatient as long as everything goes as planned.

There was a prayer service for Mom at Dixon Memorial Church on the 20th and I wouldn’t have missed it for the world. Even though she wasn’t feeling too well, Mom sang “Angels in the Room” and it wonderful. She has been blessed with a beautiful voice. We would like to thank those that came out to pray with us, as well as those who have ever sent up a prayer for Mom. It means a lot to our family.

Virgil and Freda Combs were able to attend the prayer service. We are all so glad Virgil is doing better. He looked real good. Virgil and Freda’s daughter Sara and her husband are expecting a baby girl before too long. Sara looks adorable with her tiny belly. I wish them the best of luck.

Jake and Wilma Halcomb moved from Blair Branch to Jent Mountain (Carcassonne). They moved in with their daughter Renee Smith and her family. We will sure miss them, but as with everyone, you have to do what is best for you. I spoke with their other daughter, Jamie Collins, and she said so far they were doing well.

Michael, the boys, and I spent Friday evening with his uncle Denver Couch. He was visiting Michael’s dad, Leo. Denver lives in Ohio, and doesn’t get to come back home that often so when he is in Michael likes to spend as much time with him as possible.

I have several birthdays to share this week. Amanda Blair celebrated her birthday on Oct. 24. Colton Adams, Kyle Whitaker, and Chris Ingram, 26th ; Tyra Maggard and April Whitaker, 28th; and Jonathan Blair, 29th.

Happy birthday all! I hope your special days were filled with love and laughter.

We had a blast on Saturday. Bailey’s good friend Hayden Campbell of Hazard was celebrating his birthday at Burger King. The kids played until they were absolutely exhausted, but they had so much fun. Happy birthday, Hayden! I hope you had a wonderful time at your party, and received all the gifts you had wished for.

Halloween is quickly approaching. Are you ready? The boys have had their costumes for a while now, and have already worn them out playing dress up. I still need to buy some candy to leave at Mom’s house for the trickor treaters. She always passes it out for us while we take the boys out. Everyone remember to be safe, but have fun.

I hope everyone has a healthy and happy week. If you would like to contact me, you may do so at : alanacouch@tvscable.com.

Until next time, happy Halloween.
