Blackey Improvement Committee Blackey Day Festival has been working for a while planning our festival for Oct. 11 and 12, and it is coming together nicely.
Violet Watts does an excellent job with the entertainment.
Friday, she has some good bands lined up, also a cakewalk. Saturday, Oct. 12, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., we have back-to-back music lined up that takes a lot of work but she has a lot to choose from. We have a lot of excellent talent in eastern Kentucky.
Our last band will be Long Shot from Mac Arts in Prestonsburg. They were here last year and they brought the house down. They play old-time rock and roll. You have to hear them to believe how good they are.
Our committee is proud of how our Blackey Day Festival is growing. It’s more like a homecoming or a reunion. We have family from all over come home to Letcher County for Blackey Day, and we are so pleased they do. We encourage that and look forward to seeing everyone again.
We extended our Blackey Day last year to include Friday afternoon and it as such a success we decided to continue it. So our festival will be on Friday, Oct. 11, and Saturday, Oct. 12.
Blackey Missionary Baptist Church will be having its annual big country breakfast from 8 a.m. We will also have the silent auction that is always fun.
We are trying to showcase our eastern Kentucky talents with homemade items in our booths. That seems to be what people want the most, is local, homemade items. Our food booths are great also.
We will have security this year, and we encourage our booths to set up on Friday afternoon, because we had a large crowd last year on Friday evening.
If you want to reserve your craft booth or food booth, you can call me at 606-634-2530 or 606-632- 3777, and I will reserve your booth.
We have a limited space. We look forward to Blackey Day. So clear your calendar for Oct. 11 and 12.
