Film on presciption drugs shown at ECCO

Greetings from Eolia and the Eolia Christian Community Outreach.

“If you know that he is righteous, you may be sure that everyone who does right is born of him.” I John 2:29 RSV.

Last Saturday was a lovely sunny day at Martin Fork Lake where the Gross family reunion was held. Tony and I enjoyed a good time among about 100 who came. We were happy to see folks we hadn’t seen in years as well as enjoy the best food ever.

At the ECCO community room, Melissa Sturgill, head of the county drug prevention program, showed a group of about 25 a film about prescription drugs. We were enlightened about the dangers of sharing drugs, how to dispose of medicine correctly and much more. We were treated to a meal from Lee’s and several door prizes were given out amounting to $300. A big thanks to Melissa Sturgill, Sheriff Danny Webb and their crew for sharing their evening informing community members the danger of prescription drugs.

ECCO had two very nice people for a visit. Ked Sanders and Bessie Shepherd came to photograph our quilt patterns and interview artists, Yolanda Miranda and Tiny Creech.

ECCO welcomed guests Naomi and David, River Brethren from Lancaster, Penn. River Brethren live a lifestyle similar to the Amish as they dress and live “plain.” They are a warm and friendly people with such a sweet spirit, one is automatically drawn to them.

My dear friend Jewell Maggard is having some health issues and undergoing tests. I ask everyone to please lift Jewel up in your prayers. And speaking of a sweet spirit, you won’t find anyone sweeter or kinder then Jewell.

Thought for day: “My obligation is to do the right thing. The rest is in God’s hands.”
