A Thornton woman helped her disabled husband escape from a house fire last Friday afternoon.
Lester Sexton was asleep around 3 p.m. on February 12 in a bedroom where the fire began. He crawled into the living room and woke his wife, Phyllis. She managed to lift him into a wheelchair and get him out of the residence.
“She got him out and managed to call 9-1-1,” said Margaret Fugate, Phyllis Sexton’s daughter.
Mayking and Sandlick fire departments responded to the fire.
“Their biggest hurdle right now is finding another place to live,” said Fugate.
The Sextons are staying with Lester Sexton’s brother at Thornton.
Fugate is asking for donations of clothing, furniture and other items to assist her mother and stepfather.
“They need everything,” said Fugate. “They lost everything.”
To donate, call Fugate at 821-5238.
