Cowan

Kae and David Fisher celebrated 30 years of marriage.

Kae and David Fisher celebrated 30 years of marriage.

Hello everyone – I hope you had a good week. I’m ready for spring weather all the time. The rain has been way too much.

I have been writing the Cowan News for a year this week. Time sure flies when you’re having fun. I enjoy writing this column and I hope everyone enjoys reading it.

I did receive a fun Valentine gift from the oldest son, Greg. He sent me a University of Dayton scarf. It says Dayton on one side and Flyers on the other side. The UD Flyers are doing good in basketball this year. I love the scarf.

I left off a name on the February birthday list. I want to wish Russell Yonts of Indianapolis, Ind., a great birthday.

Janis, Mike, Anna, Myles, Addison, and Tucker Marr of Berea came in on Sunday to visit Janis’s dad, John Campbell. John was glad to have them come in for a visit.

Kae and David Fisher want to wish their grandson, Avery Daniel Adkins, a happy birthday. He is now ten years old.

Their granddaughter, Lexi, and her friend Savannah spent a night with Kae and David. The girls are from Pikeville. They all enjoyed the visit.

Kae and David Fisher celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary on February 17. It’s nice when couples reach the milestone anniversaries. Kae and David were treated to an anniversary dinner by their son, Dillon, and his girlfriend, Abbi. They went to the new Mexican restaurant, Paco’s, in Jenkins. They enjoyed their meal and the time together.

Kae has been posting old family photos on the family Facebook site. They are great and there were several that I hadn’t seen. Also, Kae is a fabulous artist and she has been painting a lot. I love the paintings I have bought.

Jade Hasenour and Cavan Brentwieser are celebrating their Valentine’s Day engagement. Jade is the daughter of Brie and Nick Decker of Birdseye, Ind., and the granddaughter of Mark Goldman and the late Patti Sigrest Goldman of Birdseye, Ind. Jade and Cavan are ready to start the fun of wedding planning.

Chance Hasenour and Bailey Hoft are engaged. They are planning a summer 2021 wedding. Chance is the son of Brie and Nick Decker of Birdseye, Ind. and the grandson of Mark Goldman and the late Patti Sigrest Goldman of Birdseye, Ind.

Liliana Marie Watkins arrived on February 11, 2020 at 8:06 a.m. She was welcomed to this world by her parents, Alisha and Russ Watkins of Winchester. Her big brother is Jasper, who turned two years old on February 12, 2020. Her grandparents are Belinda and Ton Watkins of Winchester, and the great-grandparents are Pat Cracraft Whitaker and the late Russell Whitaker of Winchester. Congratulations to the new family member.

Sam Brashears of Kingsport, Tenn., is a third-year medical student at Quillen Medical School. He is planning to work in emergency medicine. His sister, Sarah Brashears, of Kingsport, Tenn., is a senior in high school and has been accepted to East Tennessee State University for the fall of 2020. Sam and Sarah are the children of Candra and Harold Leach of Kingsport, Tenn., and Sam Brashears of Cowan.

There will be a community meeting at Cowan Community Center on Wednesday, February 26, 2020 at 6 p.m. This meeting is for Cowan residents (Big Cowan, Middle Cowan, and Little Cowan) and it’s on safety. Sheriff Mickey Stines will speak at this meeting. He will give advice and answer questions. All are welcome to attend.

There is construction going on Highway 119 just outside of Whitesburg. There are new guardrails being put up. It’ll take a while to get all of it done, so be careful driving through there and you will have to wait.

Mike, John, and I have been playing a lot of Catan most evenings. On Saturday night, we played six games and I won three. We usually limit the games to three. It’s a fun game and we enjoy the time together.

There was a car wreck on Little Cowan at the beginning of the week. The car was found in the creek right above the Hop Gibson Cemetery. There was no one in the car when it was discovered. I haven’t heard anything else about this wreck.

This week’s quote is “The greatest discovery of all times is that a person can change his future by merely changing his attitude.”

Have a wonderful week.
