Five arrested here Tuesday after 6-month drug probe by sheriff , KSP and HIDTA



Five Letcher County residents were arrested Tuesday on drug trafficking charges.

The arrests were made after a six-month investigation by the Letcher County Sheriff ’s Department and the Kentucky State Police.

Lt. Brian Damron of the Letcher County Sheriff ’s Department said the roundup is in response to complaints that the sheriff ’s department had received about drugs being sold in the area.

The sheriff ’s department along with the H.I.D.T.A (High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area) Drug Task Force, Kentucky State Police and KSP D.E.S.I. (Drug Enforcement and Special Investigations) East worked together to buy controlled substances from the five individuals who were arrested March 2.

Damron said three of the five people sold controlled substances within 1,000 yards of a school.

Those arrested and their charges are:

• Brenda Webb, 49, of 512 Hwy 3410, Mayking — firstdegree trafficking in a controlled substance (cocaine).

• Stanley Sexton, 51, of 512 Hwy 3410, Mayking — first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance (cocaine).

• Mitchell Spangler, 57, of Midway Drive, Mayking — second-degree trafficking in a controlled substance (hydrocodone).

• Bobby Briggs, 34, of 166 Bill Lewis Hollow, Kona — first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance (OxyContin).

•Steven Waddell, 41, of 445 Cleo Loop, Mayking — degree trafficking in a controlled substance (hydrocodone).
