Flagpole honors the late Mike Adams

A flagpole and seating area located near the fieldhouse at the Letcher County Central High School football field were designed and purchased by the Adams and Quillen families of Fleming-Neon through the Neon Volunteer Fire Department’s Captain Michael Lynn Adams Memorial Fund. Mike Adams, who died in 1980, was the brother of Philip Adams and Linda Adams Collins. He was the first cousin of Dr. Sam Quillen Jr. and was engaged to marry Teresa Meade at the time of his death. Mike Adams was the first EMT in Letcher County and developed the ambulance and rescue division of the Neon Fire Department. He was also the first director of disaster and emergency services in Letcher County. Pictured, from left, are Philip Adams, Jonathan Adams, Emma Adams, Tony Sergent, Meagan Adams, Anna Quillen, Sam Quillen, Linda Adams Collins, longtime friend Bill Looney, Teresa Meade, and Kathy Adams.
