Flash flood damages homes in Perry Co.

Residents in Perry County are cleaning up after flash flooding damaged an estimated 25 to 40 homes.

John Epperson, the county’s

emergency director, told the Lexington

Herald-Leader that firefighters had to wade into high water to help some residents escape on Monday.

One two-story home was knocked off its foundation, but Epperson said most residents will be able to return to their homes after cleanup.

The flood waters rose about 5:30 a.m., leaking into basements and first levels of homes. Epperson said the flooding was concentrated in the communities of Bulan and Hardburly.
