Sorry that I forgot to put in last week’s column about the recent death of Don Bates of Burton Hill. He had been sick for awhile, and our sympathy goes out to his family.
Tommy Harris Smith, Lillie Moss Hale, and Mary Jo Blair have all returned from spending the winter in Florida. They said the weather there was very chilly and much cooler than usual.
Their brother, Roy Kenon Smith, came down from Ohio to check on Lillie Moss, who had fallen. He stayed with Lee and Wilma Pridemore that night.
Kenneth and Anna Lou Blair are also in Florida. I think they spend the winter in Ft. Myers.
Homer, Ruth and Anthony Smith had their grandson, Benji, visiting with them for a few days over the weekend. They took him back to Richmond on Sunday.
Francine Caudill of Sycamore Loop spent last week in St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington. She wanted to come home for her granddaughter, Cierra’s, birthday and adoption party.
It was held Saturday at the Calvary College campus. Adam and Theresa Bentley are so happy about Cierra’s adoption finally becoming legal, and they had a party for her birthday, which was Feb. 23, and also for her becoming theirs.
We are so happy for them. They have had Cierra since she was less than a year old, and we all consider her their own child. She is well loved and will always be the ‘apple of their eye.’ Many family and friends helped them to celebrate.
Theresa’s brother, William, made a surprise visit and is staying for a few days, and Lyle and Donna Frazier brought Mary Lou Combs in from Louisville to be with the family.
Verlin Breeding of Doty Creek recently celebrated his birthday with his family, having dinner at Fish Tales Restaurant in Virginia.
Clark Banks of Premium recently died and his funeral was held at the Blair Branch Church, where his sister, Susie Blair, is a member. Our sympathy goes out to his sons and two sisters, and the rest of his family.
Last week we took Opal Banks to her doctor’s appointment in Lexington. Jessie Banks came and stayed with us as Opal was getting an IV treatment. Bob and I walked across to St. Joe’s and visited for awhile with Francine Caudill, and Sue stayed with Opal.
We hope Owen Amburgey is feeling better and also Billie Lois Baker and Mary Ellen Blair.
Margaret Bowling of Doty Creek will be celebrating her 90th birthday on March 13, and if you want to send her a card, her address is: 39 Chissom Road, Jeremiah, KY 41826. We hope that she has a happy birthday.
Susie Raglin had a birthday on Feb. 28.
Hubert Eldridge will be taking care of the mowing and the upkeep of the Pearl Dixon Cemetery at Blackey (Red Star) again this year. He has taken care of this cemetery for many years, and has done a good job. With the higher gas prices and having to hire someone to help him, he would appreciate any donations from the people who have loved ones buried in this cemetery.
Please send your donations to: Hubert Eldridge, 88 Mushroom Dr., Blackey, KY 41804, or call 606-633-2444.
That’s it for now. Have a good week.
