The weather is our favorite topic this winter. Everywhere you go, you hear someone’s opinion. My opinion is thank God I’m here to complain or enjoy.
I have been in Florida this past week and it was a little cool but the sun was wonderful. Maxine Quillen, Lettie Hall, Debbie Brock, Brittney Brock and I spent a week in Destin. Can you imagine the Golden Girls and the Three Stooges being there together? We had a wonderful time. Debbie drove us anyplace we wished and was very patient.
On our way down we stopped near Atlanta and visited with a friend, Sue Hubbard. Sue is in poor health and we were so sorry she couldn’t go with us. We have had many trips with Sue and always enjoyed her. She and her late husband Russell opened up their home to us whenever we went to the NASCAR races in Atlanta. She always made good meals for us.
We stopped in Warm Springs, Ga., to see Roosevelt’s Little White House. I want to go back down there one day. It was near closing and I didn’t get to see everything.
On our way home we stopped at the New Air Force Base for Special Forces and what a huge place. When it’s finished it will be a sight to behold. Good looking guys ! Colson
Our grandson Jared Isaacs went to West Virginia for a day of skiing with his youth group. It was his first time skiing. He said he did a face plant and that was not what he wanted to learn but he had a lot of fun. He is so full of life and enjoys everything. He is almost 12. Ethan enjoyed the day at home with his mommy while Jared was away and his dad was attending a class.
Prayers for healing for Eula Tolliver, Charlene Mason, Edd Shortt, Freda Mc- Fall and all who are in need. This winter has been so hard on our bones. So many have fallen. Linda Sturgill is doing OK with her foot.
Remember my cousin Lucky Dennis Sturgill as he continues with his treatments.
Sympathy to the families who have lost loved ones this week. My first cousin Alene Baker Cook died this week at her home in Park City. Her mother Cora Baker and a lot of her family made the trip to Glasgow for visitation and the funeral. She leaves her husband, Douglas “ Pewee” Cook, and one son, Dwayne; four grandchildren, Corie Beth, Crance, Trevor and Alanis; her mother; and sisters and brothers.
Melvin Hall visited in Winchester with his children Debbie Brock and Jeff Hall and their families. He also had doctor’s appointments in Lexington the first three days this week. Jeff took us on a tour of their new home and what a beautiful home it is, also Debbie has a beautiful home. Jeff and Margaret did a fantastic job laying tile and are very professional.
The Red Hat Mountain Mommas met for their gift exchange on Friday night at Hobo’s in Whitesburg. Attending were: Marsha Banks, Irene Smith, Vernell Mullins, Ann Bradley, Ann Reynolds, Brenda Sparks, Frances Day, Sally Caudill, Freda McFall, Lois Shortt, Mary Gilliam, Shirley Whitaker and Jean Cook. It was a fun time for all the girls.
Krystal Quillen got a new ride this weekend. Her birthday is this week. Way to go, Krystal! Also birthday wishes to my brother Coolie, his great-granddaughter Brooke Lucas, who turned a big 4, Jill Shannon Guillion, our niece, Linda Lou Sturgill, not telling her age, Brandon Brock, Susie Jent, Greg Boggs and a special wish to our friend Major Sparks.
Please, everyone, pray for a special friend who is having some health issues, also for Steve Brown, who is having open heart surgery, and a cousin, Andy Honeycutt, who is in the hospital.
Oh, I forgot for just a moment my niece Katina Benton is having a birthday this week. She is one special person in my life, she helps take care of me and that’s no easy task. Clester said if I had stayed two more days in Florida he would have had her come over and wash his cups and cereal bowls. Note he didn’t say cook!
Edsel, Carol, Keith and Kaylee have had colds but are on the mend now. Kaylee says hi to Aunt Eva and Granny Betty and Grandpa Lawrence.
May God bless!
