Neon Food World has received a grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture Renewable Energy for America Program for a project that will save energy and money.
The store plans to use the grant to upgrade to more energy efficient fluorescent lighting.
David Whitaker of Food World said, “I am so grateful to be approved . . . this grant will help pay for upgrades, which will ultimately reduce our monthly electricity costs in spite of the 26 percent electric rate increase that our store experienced in 2010.”
Also receiving grants were Justice Quality Foods in Pike County, Long’s PicPac Galaxy Market in Bell County, and Martin Food World in Floyd County.
The grocers applied for the grants with assistance from the Mountain Association for Community Economic Development, a nonprofit organization which works to create economic opportunity in eastern Kentucky.
