A Virginia man was killed Monday morning at an underground mine in Letcher County after being struck by a personnel carrier.
The mine foreman, Jerry Britton, 47, of Pound, Va., was struck by the piece of equipment around 9:40 a.m. on Nov. 7 at the Hubble Mining Company’s No. 9 mine at Eolia, according to Linda Potter of the Kentucky Department for Natural Resources.
Investigators from the Kentucky Office of Mine Safety and Licensing (OMSL) are on-site conducting a preliminary investigation. This is Kentucky’s seventh mining fatality in 2011.
