Carol Fields Ison, 78, died September 12 at her home on Cowan.
She was a daughter of the late Grant and Jane Miles Fields.
Mrs. Ison was a member of the Whitesburg First Baptist Church and was retired from the Letcher County Public School System, working in many schools as a teacher, counselor, and administrator. She also worked with Mountain Comprehensive Health Corporation in its early years.
She served her community in many ways with her first love being the Cowan Community Center and was on the board of the Letcher County Extension Office.
Surviving are her husband, Kendall Ison; two children, Marshall Ison and wife Liz of Cowan, and Valerie Ison Horn and Steve Ruth of Little Dry Fork; six grandchildren, William Ison of Winchester, Steven Ison and wife Camille of Whitco, Eric and Rayden Ison of Cowan, Callie Horn Blair and husband Josh of Little Dry Fork and Grant Horn and wife Alshia of Mayking; five great-grandchildren, Tobi and Tori Ison of Ice, Eliza Jane and Owen Gregory Blair of Little Dry Fork, and Amelia Gene Horn of Mayking; and Jimmy McIntosh.
Mrs. Ison was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Greg Horn; brothers and sisters, Hazel Rayburn, Doug Fields, Mary Lou Fields, Fred Fields, Helen York, Ed Neil Fields, Donald Gay Fields, and Hattie Fields; and Eddie and Benny Mc- Intosh.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Whitesburg First Baptist Church or the Cowan Community Center.
Funeral services were held September 14 at the Whitesburg First Baptist Church. Burial was in the Edward P. Day Cemetery at Cowan.
Letcher Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
