Former Millstone man dies at 84




Former Millstone resident Hershel Back, 84, of Covington, died April 28.

Back was a retired machinist from Ford Motor Company, and a U.S Army veteran of World War II where he served on D-Day and was promoted to sergeant in the field. He was a member of the Latonia Veterans of Foreign Wars, Moose Lodge of Covington, and United Auto Workers.

Surviving him are his wife, Barbara Potter Back; two sons, Hershel V. Back and Darrel W. Back, both of Independence; two sisters, Blanche Byrd, Somerset, and Nancy Lee Arnold, Roanoke, Va.; three brothers, Virgil Back, Newport News, Va.; Ivan Back, Michigan; and Kelly “Junior” Back, Carrollton; 12 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Delecia “Lisa” Haddix.

Funeral services will be held May 2. Burial will be in the Floral Hills Cemetery in Covington.
