Former Whitesburg coach now at Danville

Former Whitesburg High School girls’ softball coach Judie Mason was recently featured in an article written by Doug Eads and appearing in Southern Kentucky Health & Family Journal, a publication of The Commonwealth Journal.

The article details Mason’s arrival at Somerset High School as a 24-yearold basketball coach in the 1991-92 season. The position was her first as head coach.

Mason coached the Lady Jumpers for 12 years. The team won the 12th Region title in the 1997-98 season, and in 1999 was the state runner-up in the All A Classic and the 12th Region tournament. In 2000, Somerset won the school’s only All A state championship.

Leaving Somerset after the 2002-03 season, Mason coached the Boyle County Lady Rebels for four seasons before becoming the coach at Danville High School, where she has coached for seven seasons. The Danville Lady Admirals won the 12th Region championship this year .

Mason is the daughter of Alice Mason of Camp Branch.
