Four local students receive scholarships

James Baker, Seth Gover, and Calvin Ward of Letcher County Central High School, and Lindsay Gibson of Jenkins High School are the recipients of the Prevention of Renal Disease in Eastern Kentucky Scholarships. The scholarships are given by Dr. J.V. Chandarana to the graduating seniors with the highest grade point averages and outstanding achievement in math and science in each of the county’s high schools.

Chronic kidney diseases are rising in incidence all over the United States, and more so in eastern Kentucky. These $100 scholarships and education packets are an effort by Dr. Chandarana to make the public and high school students aware of this serious health care issue in eastern Kentucky.
