Four receive $500 Rotary Scholarships

The winners of the 2018 Rotary Scholarships presented by the Rotary Club of Whitesburg are Kyton Joseph, Lindsay Bentley, Savannah Parsons, and Meghan Combs. Scholarships in the amount of $500 were presented to each of the winners during the July 31 Rotary meeting at Pine Mountain Grill. Scholarship winner and their parents were guests of the Rotary Club.

Kyton Joseph is the son of Jason and Jacqueline Joseph of Whitesburg, and a 2018 graduate of Harlan County High School. He will begin his college experience at the University of Kentucky and major in political science.

Lindsay Bentley is the daughter of Darrell and Jeannie Bentley of Jenkins, and is a 2018 graduate of Letcher County Central High School. She will attend Southeast Kentucky Community and Technical College this fall and pursue a major in the medical field.

Savannah Parsons is the daughter of Kevin and Leslie Parsons of Sandlick, and a 2018 graduate of Letcher County Central High School. She will attend the University of Virginia’s College at Wise and pursue a degree in nursing.

Meghan Combs is the daughter of David and Tammie Combs of Mayking, and a 2018 graduate of Letcher County Central High School. She will attend Alice Lloyd College and study pre-pharmacy.

Scholarship winners are selected based on academic achievement, community service, participation in school activities and financial need. Scholarships are awarded annually to college students who are working on their first degree.
