The Letcher County Conservation District is celebrating National Wildlife Week and National Agriculture Day by giving away free trees.
The conservation district is distributing 3,700 free trees to be planted within Letcher County. Until the conservation district runs out of trees, the types of trees to be distributed include persimmon, hazelnut, Chinese chestnut, shagback hickory and white pine.
The conservation district’s goal is to highlight some of the many important nut-producing trees that both people and wildlife can enjoy.
To obtain trees, call Brenda Joseph at the district office by calling 633-4448 or stop by the conservation district’s new facility on Industrial Park Road in Whitesburg during working hours.
