Free weather class set for Aug. 26

A free two-hour class will provide key information to participants about weather patterns and how to spot changing conditions that signal approaching storms. It will be held Tuesday, Aug. 26, at 6 p.m. in the Belinda Mason Building on the campus of Southeast Kentucky Community and Technical College at Whitesburg.

Tim Webb, instructor for the session, says a trained weather spotter “provides a vital service to the National Weather Service and to his or her community by providing actual visual confirmation directly to the NWS.” Spotters generally report significant events such as damaging winds, heavy rains, tornado activity, ice and snow.

Participants will not be obligated to report conditions to the NWS, but Webb encourages anyone with an interest in meteorology to take part in the class. For more information, call (606) 589-3324, or e-mail twebb0006@kctcs.edu.
