A Letcher County woman has started a GoFundMe account on the Internet asking for financial assistance toward search efforts for her 38-year-old brother and his girlfriend who were fatally shot in central Kentucky.
Becky Isom and other family members continue to search for her brother Robert Kevin “Bobby” Jones and his girlfriend Crystal Warner, 35, who were last seen July 3.
GoFundMe.com, founded in 2010, is a “crowdfunding” Internet site set up to allow large numbers of people to raise money for families suffering challenges such as the one facing the Jones family.
Jones and Warner were last seen on the afternoon of Sunday, July 3 after they attended a worship service at Letcher Independent Baptist Church where Bobby Jones’s father Bill Jones is the pastor. Bobby Jones and his girlfriend left his parents’ house in Crases Branch around 3 p.m. with plans to stop by a three-bedroom house the younger Jones owned near the town of Springfield in Washington County, a distance of about three hours from Letcher County.
Bobby Jones had told his parents that he planned to serve an eviction notice to renter Craig Pennington, who hadn’t paid rent in about three months.
Pennington, who was officially charged with murdering the couple early last week, has been indicted in Washington Circuit Court on two counts of murder, first-degree robbery, kidnapping, tampering with physical evidence, theft by unlawful taking or disposition of an automobile, first-degree wanton endangerment, third-degree terroristic threatening, two counts of abuse of a corpse, and menacing.
Pennington remains lodged in the Marion County Jail. Bond is set at $2 million.
As of Tuesday evening, $640 of a $5,000 goal had been raised on the GoFund- Me site for the Jones family.
