Funeral services are held for Gwenda Leah Castle

Gwenda Leah Wright Castle, 78, died May 22.

Born in Neon, she was a daughter of the late Jesse E. and Alma Adams Wright and a stepdaughter of the late Julia Cook Wright. Also preceding her in death were two sisters, Joy Davis and Patty Playforth.

Mrs. Castle was graduated from Fleming-Neon High School and completed a Home Economics Education degree at Morehead State University. She served in the Home Economics Department at Fleming-Neon High School and worked as a substitute teacher with the Berea Board of Education for seven years.

She was a member of the Berea Church of God, and was a volunteer with the 4-H and Scouts.

Surviving are her husband, Fred D. Castle; two children, Candace D. Castle Whitworth and husband James “Bear” of Ledbetter and Samuel D. Castle and Vicky Adams of Berea; five grandchildren, James Alexander “Alex” Whitworth of Ledbetter, Caeleigh Whitworth Euteneier and husband Ryan of Paducah, Andrew “Drew” Hunter Whitworth of Murray, and Samuel Derek Castle and Victoria Brooke Castle, both of Berea.

She is also survived by siblings, Sharron Riddle and husband Allen of Bryantsville, Carol Brown and husband Claude of Melbourne, Fla., Jesse “Cowboy” Wright and wife Dottie of Neon, Sherry Castle and husband James of Flat Gap, and Jon Barry Wright and wife Sheree of Neon; a sister-in-law, Annette Youngblood Castle of Lexington; and a number of nieces, nephews, greatnieces and great-nephews.

Services were held on May 26. Burial was May 27 at Memorial Gardens in Richmond.
