Billy Charles Pease, 73, of Ermine, died January 27, at Hazard Appalachian Regional Hospital.
A son of the late George William and Lucy Collins Pease, he is believed to have started working in coalmines at the age of 12. He worked for Westmoreland Coal and later Scotia Coal Company, and was a survivor of the first Scotia Mine explosion.
Surviving are his wife, Grethel Bates Pease; three daughters, Teresa Pease Webb of Ermine, Terri Pease Yonts of Deane, and Dona Pease Leonard of Norfolk, Va.; a son, Can William Pease of Ermine; two brothers, James ‘Bud’ Pease of Neon, and June Pease of Ermine; four grandchildren, Heather Webb Howard, Joshua Webb, Amanda Combs Fugate and Cynthia Combs; and five greatgrandchildren, Kayla Howard, Gracie Howard, Kierston Pratt, Mason Fugate, and Nicholas Reynolds.
Funeral services were held January 31 at Letcher Funeral Home in Whitesburg. Burial was in Green Acres Cemetery at Ermine.
