Marilyn Elaine DePriest, 86, of Lancaster, formerly of Jenkins, died February 7 at her daughter and son-inlaw’s home.
Born in Massachusetts, she was a daughter of the late Henry and Margaret Woodward Bartlett and the widow of Pastor John DePriest.
She was also preceded in death by a great-grandson, Trent Paul Carty, and a son-in-law, Paul Sanders.
Mrs. DePriest was a U.S. Army veteran and served in the Women’s Army Corps. She was a member of Burdine Freewill Baptist Church.
In 1981, she and her husband, John DePriest, founded Burdine Christian School where she was a teacher for 20 years where she was known by her former students as “Mrs. Lynn”. She was a supportive pastor’s wife for many years. She was also an avid University of Kentucky fan.
Surviving are a son, Paul DePriest and wife Cathy of Memphis, Tenn.; four daughters, Cindy Sanders and Mindy Kiser and husband Delbert, all of Jenkins; Debbie Lucas and husband Tim of Lancaster, and Melanie Caudill and husband Chris of Waddy; a brother, Earnest Beals of Stone Mountain, Ga.; a sister, Kathy Warner of Haydenville, Mass.; 14 grandchildren, and 19 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held February 9 at Burdine Freewill Baptist Church. Burial was in the East Jenkins DePriest Cemetery.
Carty Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
