Funeral services set for Sam Scott Jr.




Funeral services for Sam Scott Jr., 84, will be held at 3 p.m. today (Wednesday) at Letcher Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Collier Cemetery in Partridge.

Born in Rhoda, Va., he was a son of the late Sam Scott Sr. and Mary Angeline “Lina” Boggs Scott. He died April 5 at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Lexington.

A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy. He was a manager and later the owner of Lewis L.P. Gas Company. He also served as a councilman in Middlesboro, and a member and president of the Lions Club.

Surviving are his former wife, Jean H. Scott of Premium; two daughters, Joyce Lynn Scott and Elizabeth ‘Libby’ Scott Mattingly, both of Lexington; two grandchildren, Casey Allen Miracle and wife Tonyia of Middlesboro, and Lauren Elizabeth Miracle of Lexington; and two great-grandchildren, Ryan Austin Miracle and Evan Reese Miracle of Middlesboro.
