This is the time of year a lot of people head to the lakes to go camping, boating, swimming and fishing — all great ways to spend time together with family and friends.

Fishing just has a way of bringing out the best and in most people. This is one of the most enjoyable ways of spending time together, and it does not cost a lot of money and you don’t have to drive very far to find some type of fishing.

You do not have to go to a big lake just to find decent action. Instead, just visit a small pond, stream or river. Most offer the most beautiful and peaceful scenery you will find anywhere. Just because these are smaller bodies of water does not mean they are limited to small fishing. Several farm ponds have given up state record-size fish such as bluegill.

I was blessed to be able to do quite a bit of fishing with family members during Memorial Day weekend and again this past weekend. We caught several nice bluegill, and I caught a nice keeper largemouth bass that weighed three pounds and measured about 17 inches long.

There were a lot of people on the lake the past couple of weekends, and many of the anglers were catching some nice fish. Right now you can day fish or night fish and do pretty good both ways. So if you’re looking for some way to spend time with family and friends, give a fishing trip a try.
