The fall weather is here and the smallmouth bass fishing is picking up.
I have had reports of some good smallmouth being caught on several area lakes. Most active bass are being caught on crank baits. These are great baits to use right now as bass are chasing shad and feeding up for winter. The crank bait resembles this more than any other bait.
Right now the fire tiger and shad colors of crank baits should work best. The fire tiger pattern is basically shades of green and chartreuse. Shad patterns are silver and black and white and silver.
These patterns should hold up for awhile and then the crawdad colors will start picking up with baits like jigs and tube baits as the weather gets colder.
