This time of year — with most all the lakes still very low and at winter pool — the fishing may be good for several days and an overnight cold front can shut it all down, as has happened just this week.
When this happens you have to slow down and go to smaller baits and lighter tackle and fish deeper areas and tight to any cover for fish like bass and crappie. They will become much less active and will not move as far to feed or strike bait.
As the water warms the fish will slowly become more active and move toward shallow areas. In this case, use small baits like spinner baits and crank baits and try colors like black and silver or white and chartreuse.
When the days get warm get warm again, get out and get your spring season started.
