It is still warm outside but it is slowly cooling down some and the fishing is starting to get better. As the fall season continues the fishing will get better all the way up to early winter.
Many anglers look forward to this time of year, including me, and for several good reasons. The weather is milder and not so hot, the fish are more active, there is less traffic on the lakes, and the beautiful fall weather makes a fishing trip desirable.
As the air and water temperatures fall the fish will become more active and start to move in and out of shallow and backwater areas. Schools of baitfish will be on the move from open water areas to shallow water spots. The game fish like bass, crappie, walleye and musky will be close behind, feeding up for the winter months.
Look for areas with some type of surface disturbance and fish this area with fast moving baits like top waters buzz baits, crank baits or spinners, and work them at a steady retrieve. These baits will tell you if there are active feeding fish in the area then you can go back in with slower baits if needed.
I have gotten good reports on fishing from just about everywhere, so get out and get in on some of the action.
