We sure have been blessed with nice weather this late in the year. We will have some cooler weather this week, but for those who got to get outdoors recently I hope you had a good fishing trip.
Largemouth bass, walleye and crappie will stay active in warmer late season weather. Largemouth bass can be caught very close to the surface in only a few feet of water. I have had several bass fishing trips around this time and even later in the season and caught some nice largemouth bass in deeper water but feeding very close to the surface. They were pretty active and would chase a bait to strike it.
We fished some small top water jerk baits and minnow pattern jerk or stick baits and got good strikes from them all. We also slow rolled spinner baits and shallow running crank baits. We used all these baits with good results, as well as slower moving baits for bass like jigs and tube baits.
These slower baits work well in deeper water and when you are targeting a certain area or cover. This is a big bass pattern in the cooler months.
Largemouth bass can be caught during the winter months; you just have to be willing to adapt to the conditions, go where the best action is and use the right baits and patterns. It can pay off in a big way.
