Gabby’s fishing fever

Get ready for days when you can fish

And then the rains came … and came, right when we were getting some decent bass fishing going on many area lakes.

If there is one thing that will kill fishing dead this time of year, it is cold and muddy rising water. And that is what we are faced with right now. So until it warms up and the water straightens up, it would be a great time to work on cleaning and oiling rods and reels and getting them in top working order to use when the fishing season gets into full swing and early pre-spawn patterns get going.

Most anglers focus on bass and crappie when this time comes. Some nice fish can be caught on these patterns, but it has to be the right time of year and the right conditions. That might be a few weeks away.

While the fishing is slow right now it is a great time to go through all your tackle and sort and organize it. This might seem like slow and time consuming work now, but when you get on the water it makes picking a bait quickly so much easier.

So use this down time to get all your stuff ready to go and let’s all have a great fishing season.
