Gabby’s Fishing Fever

Largemouth bass are still biting

Everywhere I look I see nice bass being caught on lakes in several states. We have really had a mild winter so far and it has extended out the bass fishing season my several months. Many lakes in Tennessee and Virginia have had recent bass tournaments with a lot of nice size limits being caught.

By this time of year in a typical cold winter you see more about smallmouth bass and not much about largemouth. But from most of what I have seen, both largemouth and smallmouth are doing good on most lakes.

Most anglers by now are just flipping jigs or tube baits at deeper cover for largemouth, or working smallies on steeper gravel bottom banks with darker-colored jigs or live bait. Largemouth are being caught on banks and main lake drop offs on crankbaits and even on slow rolled spinnerbaits.

It is a good time to be on the water for a bass fisherman. A lot of bass anglers are taking advantage of this rare mild weather to get in on some good bass fishing while it is still mild weather.

I plan on getting in on some of all this fun soon.
