Game talk with Coach Matthews

Letcher County Central High School Coach Junior Matthews sat down with Mountain Eagle football writer Derek Barto after the Cougars’ win over Breathitt County.

Commenting on the win over the Bobcats, Matthews said:

• “it gives us momentum heading into district play.”

• “They stacked the box against us and we still ran the ball effectively.”

• “We threw for over 300 yards and spread the ball around to different receivers.”

• “Our defense played a solid game and forced 5 turnovers which is excellent.”

• “We had explosive plays on offense.”

• “We got to play a lot of our second string in the second half to give them game experience.”

Asked about his thoughts on upcoming game with Perry County Central, Coach Matthews said:

• “It our first district game and being on the road we have to be prepared for anything.”

• “They are a physical team that likes to run the ball.”

• “Our focus on defense is to stop there rushing attack.”

• “Jacob Woolum is their best athlete and they move him around on offense to get him the ball, sometime even playing him at quarterback in a wildcat formation.”

• “On offense we will continue to try to have a balanced attack between run and pass.”
