Burdine native Gary Combs, 69, died April 17 at Hazard Appalachian Regional Hospital.
Born in Burdine, he was the son of the late Marcus Combs and Verda Bates.
He grew up in Dorton, where he attended school before returning to Jenkins in 1969. Because of poor health, he had spent the last several years in Hazard Nursing Home.
In his earlier years, Mr. Combs enjoyed fishing and Dorton High School basketball games. He also enjoyed listening to bluegrass, country and rock and roll music, especially The Stanley Brothers, George Jones and Bob Seger.
Surviving are two sisters, Kaye Sexton and husband Larry of Bourbon, Ind., and Donna Back and husband Dave of Jenkins; two nieces, Kelly Peifer and husband Mike and Natalie Sexton, both of Northbrook, Ill.; two nephews, Brian Dotson of Jenkins and Shane Back of Richmond; and two aunts, Nancy Mullins of Ypsilanti, Mich., and Jean Miles and husband Larry of Adrian, Mich.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Sally Combs.
