Natural gas producer EQT is offering a reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of persons who recently stole about $10,000 worth of metal from the company’s property on Dunham Mountain and in Haymond.
Lt. Brian Damron of the Letcher County Sheriff ’s Department said metal gates used to block roads leading to gas wells were cut and removed as well as coded pipes that transfer natural gas to a pumping station.
“We are seeing a huge number of theft increases,” said Damron. “A lot of it is due to the drug problem. People are stealing to get money for drugs.”
Damron said thefts involving metals being taken to scrap yards to gain money is on the rise.
Damron asks that anyone with information about the thefts call him at 633- 2293. Callers can remain anonymous, Damron said.
