Gibson family gathers for reunion on Cowan

About 70 descendants and friends of Hop and Minerva Gibson gathered at the Cowan Community Center June 28 for their annual reunion. Families came from Indiana, Ohio, Maryland, Missouri, Mississippi, and Tennessee as well as Lexington, Louisville, Flemingsburg, Sergent, Cumberland and Cowan in Kentucky.

As always it was a wonderful time of enjoying and reconnecting. Our girls have become some mighty fine cooks and they have found some husbands who are mighty fine cooks.

Some of the early arrivals attended the Friday night performance of the Cowan Music School. They were greatly impressed and enjoyed it very much.

On Saturday evening, several met at Janice Wolod and Thelma Ison’s place on the Cassel Caudill farm for a wiener roast. Later Duane and Russell Yonts left a four-car expedition to Knott County to view the elk.

We are glad to have Janice, Thelma, Minerva and Russell remaining on Cowan for a few days.

Happy birthday to Shade Boggs of Dry Fork on July 3, and Derek Frame of Bedford, Va., on July 2. Derek is Yvonne Brown Sutphin’s grandson.

Linda and Bennett Combs’s granddaughter, Callie Finchum, is spending the week. She is the daughter of Ramona and Michael Finchum of Louisville.
