While most high school junior and senior girls have been shopping for prom dresses, Courtney Jackson has been collecting semiformal and formal dresses for girls her age who can’t afford to buy a fancy dress.

Jackson, a junior at Letcher County Central High School, has collected 80 dresses that will be distributed on Saturday, March 28, at the Blackey Community Center.

The event is on a first come, first serve basis. The dress giveaway will start promptly at 10 a.m. and end at 3 p.m.

Jackson said any female wanting to attend prom or an eighth-grade dance is welcome to pick out a dress. Girls must attend the give-away to make sure the dresses fit the recipients.

In order to maximize the number of teenagers who get dresses, there is a limit of one dress per girl.

Dresses range in sizes from extra small (0-2) to extra large (14 and up).
