The Letcher County Central Lady Cougars won two games last week and lost one to leave their record at 5-2 entering Thursday night’s game against the visiting Harlan Lady Dragons.

Heidi Bentley, who scored a team-high 15 points, and Tori Holcomb, who scored 12 points, each connected on three 3-point field goals to lead the Lady Cougars to an 85-30 win at Cordia. LCC’s winning effort was helped by 10 points from both Kyleigh Wright and Loren Boggs, eight points each by Kaylee Banks (No. 12), and seven points by Bailey Kincer. Kaylee Banks (No. 25) and Farrah Combs each scored six points, and Keira Couch had two points.

In a 72-41 win over visiting Pike County Central on December 10, the Lady Cougars 19 points from Kaylee Banks (No. 12), 14 points from Loren Boggs, and 11 points from Tori Holcomb. Jaylin Whitt scored nine points, Bailey Kincer had six points, and Farrah Combs and Keira Couch each scored four points. Heidi Bentley chipped in with two points, and Kaylee Banks (No. 25) had one point.

What had been a five-game winning streak for Coach Keith Baker’s Lady Cougars ended December 11 with a 66-40 loss to Corbin at South Laurel High School.

LCC was led in that game by 16 points from Kaylee Banks (No. 12), 11 points from Keira Couch, and seven points from Heidi Bentley. Tori Holcomb scored five points, Bailey Kincer scored four points, and Kaylee Banks (No. 25) and Kyleigh Wright each scored two points.

After Thursday’s home game against Harlan in the Pine Mountain Classic at 7:30 p.m., the Lady Cougars will visit Lawrence County on December 20, also at 7:30. LCC will then play a home game against Owsley County on December 21. That game is also set for 7:30 p.m.

The Jenkins Lady Cavaliers improved to 2-2 on the season with a 58-45 win at June Buchanan. The Lady Cavs returned to action last night (Tuesday) at Martin County (6-) and will visit Pikeville (3-1) on December 18.

Jenkins was powered to victory over the Crusaders by Lindsey Rose, who scored 22 points, and Alexis Richie, who contributed 20 points. Cadence Firth scored 8 points for the Lady Cavs, and Emma Stewart and Skye Brown each had four points.
