Girls beat Hazard in volleyball match




On Sept. 2, the Hazard Lady Bulldogs traveled to Letcher County Central High School for a volleyball match with the Lady Cougars. Letcher Central came away the victor, 2-0 (25-5, 25-7).

In the first set, the Lady Cougars was led by senior Victoria Halcomb who scored 17 straight points serving and made several kills against the Lady Bulldogs. Senior Brittany Sexton and junior Myrika Begley also played well as they also made kills against the Hazard defense. Sophomore Janetta Dixon and freshman Ari Nichols both played well at the setter position and both made several nice assists. Sophomore Erica Meade continued her solid play as she made nice hits all over the floor.

In the second set, sophomore Sierra Dixon stepped it up as she scored 11 points serving in a winning effort. Junior Lisa Frazier did a fine job hitting and the Libero, Kristin Blair, played solid backcourt defense. Senior Sierra Bates made some impossible to-handle kills and she also hit some aces serving. Myrika Begley and Victoria Halcomb again made kills and Halcomb also did a good job with her net play and blocking.
