Gladys Yonts dies at 96

Funeral services for Gladys Mae Mullins Yonts, 96, of South Carolina, were held May 9 in Whitesburg. Burial was in Powell Valley Memorial Gardens in Big Stone Gap, Va.

Born in McRoberts, she was the daughter of the late George “Pap” Mullins and Nancy “Nannie” Wright Mullins. She died May 6.

She was the widow of Jim Yonts, and was also preceded in death by five brothers and four sisters in law, Virgil and wife Elma, Estill and wife Ida, Lloyd and wife Nina, Hassel Ray, and Bennett Mullins and wife Geraldine.

Mrs. Yonts was graduated from Jenkins High School, and after employment in the Consolidated Coal Company store in McRoberts, she was a nursing assistant at Jenkins Hospital and Mountain Comprehensive Health Care.

Surviving are a daughter, Donna Yonts Tucker and husband Dickie; two grandchildren, Shelly Tucker DeSimone and husband Jamie, and Derek Tucker and wife Whitney; four great-grandchildren, Luke and Maria DeSimone, and Clark and Gretchen Tucker; and in-laws, Russell Yonts and wife Minerva, Duane Yonts and wife Ann, Marie Mercer, and Ella Sparks and husband Major.
