GM is killing Cadillac XLR

General Motors Corp. will stop making the Cadillac XLR, a retractable hardtop roadster on the market since 2003.

The Daily News of Bowling Green reports that production of the Cadillac XLR is expected to cease in the spring, with layoffs affecting as many as 40 employees.

The move comes after a year of slipping sales. About 1,250 XLRs were sold in 2008, a decrease of 28 percent compared to 2007.

The vehicle is made at GM’s Bowling Green plant, along with the Corvette. Both vehicles share the Ybody platform

The plant is closed until Feb. 23 because of GM’s financial woes.
