Graduation, proms now a memory

Northeast Ohio

Howdy, and I sincerely hope it ain’t as hot where you might chance to be as it is here. Mid 90s and looks as though a storm just might be in our near future.

Area graduations, proms and parties now just a memory. I do hope all are pleasant ones. Congratulations to all graduates from kindergarten to high school and college. May each of you realize your dreams and may you be successful at whatever comes your way.

Red and I are both making it as best we can, really nothing to brag about but we are still here and we consider that a plus.

Haven’t talked to any of my family except Georgia and Jeanie. Right now Jeanie, Phil and Christy are in Atlanta, Ga., visiting with Calvin, Mary, Carson and Cameron. Tuesday was Carson’s second birthday, which they missed. But I’m sure Carson won’t mind a later party. He’ll just enjoy all the ice cream, cake and attention any day of the month, won’t matter to him at all. Happy birthday, Carson, hope it was a good’un. Love you lots, Great-aunt Emma Lou (Sergent) Engle and Great-uncle Howard ‘Red’ Engle. We both wish you a long and happy life. Looking forward to seeing you and the rest of your family at the Engle-Sergent picnic in August. OK?

Red has talked to Jean, Charles, Frances and Nina and today I happened to answer the phone and got to talk with Carleta. She never fails to call and check on us and we really do appreciate each and every call. Guess most were doing OK, except Nina and from what Red said, she isn’t doing too well. Oh well, guess that’s what one can expect in these so called, “Golden Years”. Wonder who came up with that phrase. “Enjoy the Golden Years!”, I truly hope the one who did is having a better time than most of the rest of us.

To Liz, our special girl, thank you so much for the beautiful card and we both hope and pray that everything is getting better for you and wishing you will soon be back to yourself again. If you talk to Alvania, please tell her I haven’t forgotten her and soon as I can I plan to have a stern talk with myself and tell me I must, and I do mean MUST, start getting some letters written and in the mail.

Got a sweet letter from Don and Ava Blair. Always good to hear from them. So sorry Don isn’t feeling well, believe you me, Red and I can relate. Yes, Ava, I am in a size two petite skirt, only have one that fits. When I go shopping can never find anything long enough or one suitable for an older woman. Too short and too girlish. I do have pants in small, extra small and XX small but if ever we are able to attend church I do not feel comfortable in pants. Yes, I do eat plenty but just doesn’t seem to help. Maybe one day I’ll start getting fat and won’t be able to stop.

Catharine came by late yesterday evening and mowed back and front lawns then went shopping for me. Don’t know what we would do without her. I really feel bad depending on her so much.

Haven’t heard from Richard and Georgia today, so don’t know if they will stop by tonight or not.

Wishing everyone a blessed and happy week Just look for me next week, maybe I’ll have lots and lots of good news.

Love and prayers to all my Sergent and Engle families and to all the precious friends I have made through The Mountain Eagle. See ya!
