Graham Abbott buried at Bedford




Funeral services for Graham Abbott, 77, of Whitesburg, were held May 30 at Letcher Funeral Home in Whitesburg. Burial was in Bedford Cemetery at Bedford.

A son of the late George Wilbur and Vada Blanche Wise Abbott, he died May 27 at Whitesburg Appalachian Regional Hospital.

He was the father of the late Timothy David Abbott, and a brother of the late George Stanley Abbott, Ronnie Eugene Abbott, W.R. Abbott and Lois Morgan.

He attended Lindsey Wilson College, Asbury College and Asbury Theological Seminary, and was an elder at Port Royal Methodist Church, New Castle United Methodist Church, United Methodist Church, Paintsville First United Methodist Church, Carlisle United Methodist Church, Ashland Christ United Methodist Church, Mt. Sterling United Methodist Church, Graham Memorial Presbyterian Church and Jenkins United Methodist Church.

Mr. Abbott was an All District, Regional, Conference and Honorable Mention All State Basketball Player, an All District, Region, Conference Baseball Player, Most Valuable Player Fast Pitch Softball Player, assistant coach of fast pitch softball at Whitesburg High School.

He was named Citizen of the Year in Paintsville, and received the Collegian Award at Asbury College as well as an honorary degree.

Surviving are a son, Stephen Paul Abbott of Danville, and two brothers, Leslie Abbott and Benny Abbott, both of Louisville.
