Grand jury charges 11

Indictments include charges in fatal wreck

Eleven people are named in 14 indictments handed down by the Letcher County Grand Jury. They are:

• Nora Pearl Hall, 37, of 30 Pheasant Drive, Neon, who is charged with first-degree criminal possession of controlled substance (methamphetamine, second offense), use/possession of drug paraphernalia and being a second-degree persistent felony offender.

Letcher County Sheriff Mickey Stines testified in the case.

• Ricky Allen Bates Jr., 35, of 70 Jim Banks Drive, Whitesburg, who is charged in three indictments.

The grand jury accuses Bates of first-degree possession of controlled substance (methamphetamine), use/possession of drug paraphernalia and being a first-degree persistent felony offender.

Jenkins Police Chief Hunter Holbrook testified in the case.

In the second indictment, Bates is charged with first-degree bail jumping for failing to abide with the conditions of his release and with being a first-degree persistent felony offender.

Kristi Skeens of the Office of Commonwealth’s Attorney testified in the case.

In the third indictment, Bates is charged with first-degree bail jumping for failing to report to Letcher District Court and with being a first-degree persistent felony offender.

• Rebecca Darnell Hall, 30, of 53 Grand Drive, Cromona, who is charged with reckless homicide, leaving scene of accident/ failure to render assistance, tampering with physical evidence and operating a motor vehicle under the influence of drugs (first offense with aggravators).

The grand jury says Hall caused the death of Claude Shannon Whitaker by striking him with her Jeep Liberty automobile. Hall is charged with failure to stop. Hall is also accused of destroying, mutilating, concealing, removing or altering evidence, and with operating the vehicle while under the influence of Hydrocodone, a controlled substance.

Kentucky State Trooper Jarrett Fields testified in the case.

• Ashley Renee Belcher, 35, of 257 Henry Hutton Road, Neon, who is charged with first-degree wanton endangerment, firstdegree criminal mischief, operating a motor vehicle under the influence of intoxicants (first offense), operating a vehicle with suspended or revoked operator’s license, no/expired registration plate, failure to provide proof of Kentucky registration receipt, failure of non-owner to maintain required insurance, failure to provide proof of liability insurance or proof of security, failure to stop and render aid and falsely reporting an incident.

The grand jury says Belcher struck the bedroom area of the residence of Condal Potter at 1518 Ky. Hwy. 343, Neon, with her vehicle, causing substantial structural damage to the occupied residence, while operating a vehicle under the influence of intoxicants. Belcher is also charged with falsely saying the vehicle had been stolen at the time of the incident.

Kentucky State Trooper Jason Bates testified in the case.

• Billy R. Adams Jr., 29, also known as William R. Adams Jr., of 2119 Golf Course Lane, Mayking, who is charged with second-degree burglary, theft by unlawful taking ($500 or more) and being a first-degree persistent felony offender.

Adams is accused of burglarizing the residence of Danielle King at 738 Golf Course Lane, Mayking, and taking property belonging to King.

Danielle King testified in the case.

• Sherrell Lewis Sandlin, 40, also known as Sherrill Lewis Sandlin, of 1130 Pert Creek Road, Whitesburg, who is charged with receiving stolen property, a 2020 model dirt bike stolen from the Dixon family of Blackey; receiving stolen property (firearm enhancement); first-degree trafficking controlled substance (methamphetamine, more than two grams, second offense, firearm enhancement); possession of marijuana (firearm enhancement) and use/possession of drug paraphernalia (firearm enhancement).

Letcher County Sheriff ’s Deputy Corey Harris testified in the case.

• Brian Scott Sizemore, 40, of Puffen Lane, Redfox, and 110 Kona Drive, Isom, who is charged with first-degree possession of controlled substance (methamphetamine) and use/ possession of drug paraphernalia.

• Kristine Branham, 36, of P.O. Box 190, Mayking, who is charged with first-degree bail jumping for failure to report to Letcher Circuit Court in relation to a pending felony proceeding and with being a second-degree persistent felony offender.

• Deloris Daniels, 34, of 169 Locust St., Phelps, who is charged with first-degree bail jumping in two indictments. In the first indictment Daniels is accused of failure to report to Letcher Circuit Court in a pending felony proceeding. In the second indictment, Daniels is charged with failure to report to Letcher Circuit Court in relation to a pending felony proceeding.

• Robert Caudill, 66, of 140 Possum Trail, Cornettsville, who is charged with first-degree bail jumping for failure to report to Letcher Circuit Court in a pending felony proceeding.

• Crystal Callihan, 36, of 33 Margie & Ed Drive, Whitesburg, who is accused of first-degree bail jumping for failure to report to Letcher Circuit Court in a pending felony proceeding.
