Grand jury charges woman who allegedly stole service from county’s water dept.

A Thornton woman has been indicted by the Letcher Grand Jury on a charge of theft of service.

Judy Vernell Profitt, 64, of 3904Thornton Road, is charged with theft of services over $500.The grand jury says she illegally obtained services from the Letcher County Sewer and Water District valued well in excess of $5,200 by unauthorized hook up to the main water line.

Profitt is also charged by the grand jury with second-degree criminal mischief for intentionally damaging or destroying the water meter and/or water line belonging to the Letcher County Water and Sewer District.

James Dixon and/ or Shawna Cauldwell of the Letcher County Water and Sewer District testified in the case.

Others named in the new round of indictments include:

• Tyler Dakota Newsome, 27, of 160 Happy Hollow, Jenkins, is charged with promoting contraband and being a first-degree persistent felony offender. The grand jury says Newsome, while he was confined in the Letcher County Jail, had dangerous contraband consisting of a broken broom handle formed into a weapon.

Letcher County Deputy James Isom testified in the case.

• Christian Tyler Collins, 21, of 701 College Drive, Whitesburg, is charged with first-degree promoting contraband for possessing a homemade tattoo gun while he was confined in the Letcher County Jail.

Letcher County Deputy Jailer Aaron Pack testified in the case.

• Ethan Cody Mundy, 21, of 2221 Pierson Drive, Lexington, is charged with speeding 25 miles per hour over or greater, reckless driving, disregarding a stop sign, failure to or improper signal, failure to have operator’s license in possession, improper passing, improper start from parked position, operating motor vehicle under the influence of intoxicants (first offense with aggravating circumstances), use/possession of drug paraphernalia, first-degree fleeing or evading police, and four counts of first-degree wanton endangerment.

Whitesburg Police Offi- cer Michael Garner testified in the case.

• Kevin A. Stiles, 32, of 876D Mountain Breeze Road, Apt. 397, Jenkins, is charged with possession of a handgun by a convicted felon and operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol (first offense).

Jenkins Police Officer James Stephens testified in the case.

• David William Breaden, 40, of 202 Christopher Drive, Nicholasville, is charged with first-degree bail jumping for failure to appear in Letcher Circuit Court for a status hearing and with being a first-degree persistent felony offender.

In a second indictment, Breaden is charged with first-degree bail jumping for failure to appear in Letcher Circuit Court for a status hearing and with being a first-degree persistent felony offender.

• Jeffrey Lynn Craft, 43, of 332 Cross Over Road, Mayking, is charged with first-degree bail jumping for failure to appear in Letcher Circuit Court for a preliminary hearing and with being a second-degree persistent felony offender.

Those charged with first-degree bail jumping are:

• Christian R. Adams, 22, of 299 East Main Street, Apt. 1, Whitesburg, for failure to appear in Letcher Circuit Court for a scheduled pretrial conference hearing.

• Gary Adams, 57, of 154 Redbud Lane, Isom, for failure to appear for a status hearing at the Letcher County Courthouse.

• Mersades Sturgill, 27, of 125 Sycamore Loop, Jeremiah, for failure to report for an arraignment at the Letcher County Courthouse.

• Meghan Williams, 33, of Mountain Breeze Road, Apt. 345, Jenkins, for failure to report for motion hour at the Letcher County Courthouse.

Lisa Slone, of the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s office, testified in the bail jumping cases.
