Grand jury indicts 8



The Letcher County Grand Jury has returned eight felony indictments, two of which accuse a man of cashing checks on a non-existent Blue Diamond Coal Company payroll account.

The grand jury says Joseph Martin Lewis, 36, of 6770 Hwy. 510, Coldiron, and 6770 Hwy. 510, Gordon, cashed a check for $716.47 at Food City on March 6 on a nonexistent payroll account of Blue Diamond Coal Company with Community Trust Bank. He is also charged with theft by deception and with being a persistent felony offender.

In a separate indictment, Lewis is charged with cashing a check for $709.25 at Food City on March 9 on a nonexistent payroll account of Blue Diamond Coal Company with Community Trust Bank. He is also charged with theft by deception and with being a persistent felony offender.

Others indicted by the grand jury are:

• Tristan Derrick Adams — complicity to theft by unlawful taking, possession of burglary tools, complicity to burglary, fleeing or evading police and being a persistent felony offender.

Adams, 27, of 219 Adams Branch, Jeremiah, is charged with acting with Robin Miller on May 13 in taking property valued at $500 or more belonging to the owner of a residence at 58 Hwy. 2026, Whitesburg. He is also accused of attempting to flee from Lt. Brian Damron of the Letcher County Sheriff ’s Office.

• Robin A. Miller — complicity to theft by unlawful taking and complicity to burglary.

The grand jury says Miller, 45, of Letcher, acted with Tristan Adams on May 13 in taking property valued at $500 or more belonging to the owner of a residence at 58 Hwy. 2026, Whitesburg.

• Jacob Edward Bennett — criminal complicity to burglary criminal complicity to theft by unlawful taking.

Bennett, 22, of 2131 Kenton St., Springfield, Ohio, is charged with acting with Ashley Marie Greathouse on March 14 in taking property valued at $500 or more from the residence of Bobby Ray Banks at 103 Bee Tree Road, Premium.

• Ashley Marie Greathouse — criminal complicity to burglary criminal complicity to theft by unlawful taking.

Greathouse, 28, of 2131 Kenton St., Springfield, Ohio, is charged with acting with Jacob Edward Bennett on March 14 in taking property valued at $500 or more from the residence of Bobby Ray Banks at 103 Bee Tree Road, Premium.

• Alex Lee Fleming — public intoxication (excludes alcohol), burglary (first degree) forced entry and theft by unlawful taking.

The grand jury says Fleming, 26, of 73 Connie Lane, Cromona, was under the influence of a controlled substance and entered a building at 421 Haymond Hill, Jenkins, belonging to Tracy and Marie Belcher while armed with a .410 gauge shotgun, and/or a HJ double barrel .10 gauge shotgun and/or a Phoenix .25 caliber handgun. He is charged with taking property valued at $10,000 or more belonging to the Belchers.

• Jody Todd Jones — theft by unlawful taking.

The grand jury says Jones, 42, of 185 Godsey Hollow Road, Bulan, on March 15 took two rings with a combined value of $500 or more belonging to Katherine Collins.

• Christopher Shane Mc- Clain — receiving stolen property, cruelty to animals (second degree) and being a persistent felony offender.

McClain, 33, of 1764 Smoot Creek Road, Whitesburg, is charged with possessing a stolen pregnant dog on April 26, which is valued at $500 or more and had been stolen from Naketa Adams.
