Grand jury indicts seven

The Letcher County Grand Jury named seven people in nine indictments on February 3, including a man charged with robbing the Whitesburg Super 8 Motel.

Mark Joseph Morton, 25, of 95 Bicycle Lane, Whitesburg, is charged with threatening Malachi Longworth with a butcher knife while robbing the Super 8 Motel of $553.73 on Dec. 16.

He is also accused of retaliating against a participant in a legal process.

Whitesburg Police Department Assistant Chief Tyrone Fields testifi ed in the case.

Others indicted are:

• Angela Rose — Two counts of false statement/misrepresentation to receive benefits, two counts of failure to report change in factors determine eligibility to receive

The grand jury says Rose, 36, of Hwy. 343, McRoberts, made false statements to receive food stamps for $4,926 and medical assistance for $88.87 from November 2009 to July 2010, failing to disclose that she was employed by the Otter Creek Correctional Facility and had a substantial income.

Office of the Inspector General Special Investigator Dave Hampton testified in the case.
