Grandmother also charged in baby’s drowning

A McRoberts grandmother has been charged with a felony for allegedly violating a court order and permitting her son and his wife to have unsupervised visitation with her 17-month-old grandson who drowned in Jenkins earlier this year.

Nell Anderson, of 50 Lonesome Drive in McRoberts, was being held in the Letcher County Jail after a grand jury returned an indictment charging her with second degree manslaughter. Bond was set at $25,000 cash.

The grand jury charges that Nell Anderson “wantonly caused the death by drowning of Curtis Wayne ‘Nicky’ Anderson III by permitting his parents to have unsupervised visitation” of the infant.

Nell Anderson’s son, 24-yearold Curtis Wayne Anderson II, and daughter-in-law, 30-year-old Melissa Gail Anderson, were indicted on similar charges late last month.

Authorities say Nicky Anderson drowned after he fell into a creek after having been left alone to play on a swingset in the yard of his grandparents.

The grand jury voted to return the indictments against all three after hearing testimony from Kentucky State Police Detective Randy Combs and Georgia Kincer, a social worker with the Cabinet for Families and Children.
