Grandsons visit Virginia Brown

It was good to see Verna and Chester Rayburn on Cowan. They hadn’t been here for awhile.

They report that all is well with their family. Grandson Bernard is doing well in his first year of high school. Grandson Spencer is in the first grade, and had told his mom to ‘not expect too much out of him this year.’

Robert and Sherry Brown and sons Jacob, Bradley and Joseph all spent Saturday night with their granny, Virginia Brown. The boys are in eighth grade, first grade and kindergarten. They are all on the football teams. After church Saturday night, Bradley was handing out quarters to all of the preachers.

The Little Cowan Primitive Baptist Church had a wonderful Union meeting. Visiting ministers were Wednesday night, Burnice Sybert and John Bedwell; Thursday night, Richard Sieber, Neal Drinnon, and Brad Dutton; Friday night, Terry Sizemore, Oscar Irvin, Roger Trent, Larry Miller, Harmon Willis, Glen Cornett and Roger Manning.

Junior and Juanita Pitts of Kingston, Tenn., have been visiting their aunt Elsie Banks, and Carl Bennett and Marsha Banks and other relatives.

The Hatton reunion was held Saturday, Aug. 29, at the Cowan Community Center. A lot of people attended from Ohio, Florida, Indiana, and North Carolina. Two of the Hatton boys, Clay and Virgil, were missing this year, and Emma Halcomb was too sick to come. Irene Betz came from Ft. Myers, Fla., and Faye Banks’s sister, Iva Clark of Tiffin, Ohio, came with her. Iva got to see a lot of good friends and family from Cowan and Whitco.

Faye and Charles hosted a big get-together and cookout. Faye’s children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were there, and a good time was enjoyed by all.

Happy birthday to Amber Combs today (Wednesday). Amber is the daughter of David Combs of Ice, and is attending Morehead State University.

Happy first anniversary to Dustin and Jenna Crawford of Indianapolis. To celebrate, they are on a Caribbean cruise this week.

Rod Raleigh and Greg Hill, two of the good ministers who usually attend our Union meeting, were unable to come this year because of illness.

Please pray for Echol Head, Harold Head, Allen Hensley, Bozzle Manis and Jeff Holbrook.

We had good attendance with visitors from several other churches. Charlie Day of Cumberland came every night. On Sunday, he returned with his wife, Alma, and brought a huge kettle of chicken and dumplings.
